A bedroom count gives you a useful starting point, but the appliances inside the home determine the system. In our 3-bedroom model, everyday loads use 8.81 kWh per day; running three bedroom air conditioners overnight raises that estimate to 18.57 kWh. That change affects the solar array, inverter and battery in different ways. Use the 150 scenarios below to find a planning range, then let us confirm it from your actual load list.

Bedroom count gives a range; your appliances set the final size

Two 3-bedroom homes can need very different systems. A home supporting refrigeration, lights, fans, television, internet, small kitchen appliances, laundry and a water pump has a much smaller energy requirement than the same home running three air conditioners through the night. In this model, those cases use 8.81 and 18.57 kWh per day. Adding a living-room air conditioner brings the estimate to 22.13 kWh per day.

PV replaces daily energy

We divide daily use by the location's PVGIS yield, add a 15% planning reserve, and show both annual-average and lowest-month array sizes.

The inverter carries simultaneous loads

We total appliances that may run together, add 25% headroom, and round up to the next practical inverter size.

The battery supports selected loads

The model uses one day of backup, 80% depth of discharge, 90% battery-to-AC efficiency and a 55%–70% critical-load share.

Use these figures for early planning. Electric water heating, space heating, EV charging, pools, workshops, large deep-well pumps and electric ovens are outside the model. Add any of these loads before choosing equipment.

How Sunchees turns your house details into a system design

Our residential, off-grid and hybrid ranges cover different ways of powering a home. A sizing request records the country and city, 120V/240V split-phase or 230V single-phase supply where applicable, appliance watts and hours, and the loads reserved for outages.

1. Location and electrical supply

Tell us the country, city, voltage and whether the property uses single-phase, split-phase or three-phase power. Location changes PV output; the electrical supply changes inverter and distribution choices.

2. Appliances and running hours

List the power, quantity and daily hours for air conditioners, pumps, refrigerators, kitchen equipment and other important loads. Note which appliances may run together.

3. Your backup priorities

Choose which appliances must continue during an outage and how many hours or days you want to support them. Those choices determine stored energy.

4. We confirm the equipment and bill of materials

We check PV kWp, inverter kW and battery kWh separately, then review starting loads, MPPT and string limits, roof conditions and the property's electrical supply. Ready-made kits help you compare equipment, while the confirmed project file defines the order.

Why the same house needs a different PV array in another country

The appliance load stays the same when we compare locations, while the energy produced by each installed kWp changes. We used European Commission JRC PVGIS 5.3 data for one reference city in each country. These city points make the scenarios comparable; an exact design also uses the property's coordinates, roof direction, tilt and shading.

Which household appliances are included?

The basic profile includes refrigeration, LED lighting, fans, television, internet, small kitchen appliances, laundry, a water pump and personal electronics. The bedroom-night-AC profile adds one 0.8kW air conditioner per bedroom, operating for eight hours at a 55% load factor. The whole-home profile also adds one 1.2kW living-room unit for six hours.

  • Basic / no AC: prioritises refrigeration, lighting, communications, normal kitchen use and a household pump.
  • Bedroom night AC: adds overnight cooling to the energy and simultaneous-power estimate.
  • Whole-home AC: adds living-room cooling, increasing PV, inverter and battery requirements.

Our 120m², four-person model uses 8.81 kWh per day without air conditioning, 18.57 kWh with three bedroom units at night, and 22.13 kWh after adding living-room cooling. In Kingston, Jamaica, the corresponding lowest-month PV sizes are 2.42, 5.11 and 6.09 kWp. Actual air-conditioner input power, shading and backup priorities can change the result.
Is a 5kW inverter enough for a 4-bedroom house?
The basic 4-bedroom profile in this model rounds to a 5kW inverter. Four bedroom air conditioners raise the recommendation to 10kW, and the whole-home profile also uses 10kW. A large pump, electric oven or different compressor starting method can raise the simultaneous peak.
How do I choose battery capacity for a bedroom house?
Start with the appliances that must run during an outage and the required backup time. This table uses one day, 80% depth of discharge, 90% battery-to-AC efficiency and a profile-specific critical-load share, then rounds up to 5.12kWh modules. Your battery changes when any of those inputs changes.
Should I use the average or lowest-month PV size?
The annual-average column is useful for an early grid-connected energy comparison. Off-grid homes and properties with frequent outages usually place more weight on the lowest month and consecutive cloudy days. The lowest-month value is still a monthly average, so detailed design also checks hourly loads, weather patterns and battery charging.
Can I order from the 600W panel count in the table?
The table divides the lowest-month PV capacity by 0.6kW and rounds up. Before ordering, we also check the inverter's MPPT voltage and current, string count, cold-weather open-circuit voltage, roof layout and applicable electrical requirements.
