We completed installation and electrical commissioning on August 26, 2026, after two days of site work. The rooftop panels connect to indoor equipment, with an inverter on the wall and storage equipment below.

Electricity for the hours after sunset

Zanzibar is connected to Tanzania's mainland grid by undersea cables and is also developing local generation and storage. For this house, rooftop solar adds a source of electricity at the property itself. A battery allows some daytime energy to be kept for later use.

Refrigeration does not stop when the sun goes down. Lights and television may also be used after daylight hours, making the relationship between daytime generation and indoor storage relevant to the home's daily routine.

Twelve 600W panels form a 7.2kWp array, paired with 10kW class single phase equipment and a 51.2V 300Ah lithium battery. Nominal storage is approximately 15.36kWh. Daytime consumption and charging determine how much is left for the evening, while backup duration depends on the appliances in use.

The roof and the trees belong to the same site

The panels follow the existing roof plane, with nearby palms and trees forming part of the surroundings. As the sun changes position, branches may affect how much light reaches the array. The clear sky in a photograph records one moment, not a full year of generation.
